Which Is Better for Infant Care in Singapore: Maid or Nanny?
Caring for a baby is one of life’s most rewarding experiences, but also one of the most exhausting. That’s why many families in Singapore consider getting extra help at home.
At Nation, we have our own training centres staffed with the industry’s most experienced instructors to provide a structured training programme for all new Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) before they arrive at your home. This includes the mandatory Settling-in-Programme (SIP) to familiarise your maid with living in Singapore, as well as the required Pre-Employment Training to acquire more specialised skills to support your family’s needs.
Our training programme covers the full spectrum of general housekeeping and specialised areas of needs such as care for the elderly, infant/young children, pets and other domestic work.
Should your family have specific requests for the maid such as to be able to cook local dishes or to provide care for a family member with disability, we can arrange for your maid to attend specialised training such as cooking classes, caregiver training programme and more.

Each household is unique and has its own requirements. Nation can develop a customised training programme for your helper if you have special household needs, such as requiring the maid to be able to prepare meals for the elderly or able to do grocery shopping independently. Should you require this value-added service, speak to our consultants to arrange the training at your home based on your schedule.
Some households may have family members who are physically challenged or have mobility issues and elderly and infants/young children in the same household. Nation’s in-house structured Caregiver Training Programme for MDWs incorporates techniques and tips to handle both elderly family members, disabled persons, and infants/young children. You can consider sending your maid to our in-house trainings to advance their skill to deliver the required care.
Nation also works with industry partners to conduct specialised caregiver training programmes for employers who might require additional training for their MDWs. These courses are relatively affordable, and you may be able to qualify for the Caregiver Training Grant administered by Agency for Integrated Care.

All first-time MDWs must attend the mandatory Settling-In-Programme (SIP) within the first three days of their arrival in Singapore and before being deployed to the employer’s household. At Nation, we will ensure the helpers complete this training within the stipulated time period (excluding Sundays and Public Holidays), so that you can meet your helper as soon as they are ready. You can find out more about the SIP programme and its syllabus on MOM’s website.
Training your MDW, providing them with skills, knowledge and competency, and upskilling is part of our process to help your maid to perform her tasks more efficiently in your household. Nation has an inhouse training facility to train our MDWs befoere they are deployed to your home. Some of the specialised pre-employment training programmes include general housekeeping, care for elderly, infant or young children, first aid and cooking, among others.
Nation Club is an online training and learning platform created for Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs), so they can excel in their work and bring value to the employers and households that they serve. Most of the maid’s responsibilities range from general housekeeping, childcare duties, and caring for elderly or sick family members. With such a wide range of duties to perform, many are feeling inadequate to complete the tasks satisfactory or fail in some tasks due to the lack of skills and knowledge.
Nation Club targets maids from different backgrounds, needs and goals with the objective to provide flexible learning opportunities to meet their individual needs. They can go for personal enrichment or self-improvement courses such as vocabulary or inter-personal interaction skills. All videos are subtitled in the maids’ native languages for their easy learning, including English, Bahasa Indonesia, and Burmese.
Once the maids completed a video, they can go on to complete an assessment in the form of tests and quizzes to obtain a Certificate of Completion. Certification can help enhance the maids’ credibility with their current employers and assure them of their competency to gain their trust.
